About Efamol

For over 25 years, Efamol has led the international field in the scientific research and development of essential fatty acid (EFAs) health supplements.

Efamol specialises in essential fatty acid (EFAs) based products, the so called "good fats" that are essential for the healthy functioning of every cell in the human body. These "good fats" are from the Omega-3 and Omega-6 families of nutrients and are sourced from high quality fish oils and evening primrose oil. Since it's inception Efamol has developed a specialised range of fatty acid based products that span a number of health sectors such as heart, brain, eye and hormonal health. Even our name demonstrates our commitment - 'Efamol' comes from the term Essential Fatty Acid MOLecule.

The late 1920s

Essential fatty acids (EFAs) were discovered, and the significant clinical research into their impact on human health began.

The 1950s

A group of researchers, including David Horrobin, published a scientific rationale indicating that Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), derived from the seed of the Evening Primrose plant, could be beneficially linked to the quality of human health and nutrition.

1977

Dr Horrobin founded Efamol Ltd to further pursue research into the role of fatty acid molecules in the human metabolism, and to translate this research into nutraceutical products for the advancement of health and well-being.

1978

Efamol Pure Evening Primrose Oil was one of the first brands supplying high quality supplements for hormonal balance and skin health to be launched.

1981

The Efamol Research Institute is founded.

1995

The launch of Efalex pioneered the development of the brain and eye health category.

1999

Efamol was purchased by Royal Numico, a Dutch multi-national company with worldwide influence in the field of infant and clinical nutrition.

2003

Efamol was acquired by the current management team, a group of individuals with extensive experience in the field of essential fatty acid nutrition, and so returned to independent ownership.

2006

Efamol Biosciences Limited was acquired by a food supplement company, Wassen International Limited, to enable access to many more consumer markets across the globe.

2007

Efalex Active 50+ was launched. A new formula combining omega-3 fish oil with key nutrients known for their beneficial role in maintaining healthy brain function and performance.

2009

Efalex re-launched as Efalex Omega-3 +6 in the UK.

Tomorrow...

Preliminary planning is underway for the introduction of several new products, which goes hand-in-hand with an extension of research and development activities and a commitment to a comprehensive programme of clinical trials.
